The project’s goal is to improve readiness for the adoption of drone technology in plant protection as soon as legislation permits. One of the biggest obstacles to the widespread use of drone technology in agriculture is managing the entire process of data collection, data transfer, and the organization and coordination of work sites. As a result of the project, an open data collection model and a precision plant protection drone contracting service model will be developed, both of which will be available for public use. EIP group consists of innovative agricultural entrepreneurs, agricultural machinery contractors and crop protection experts who actively utilize new technologies. Their farms will serve as pilot sites for the project. The EIP group collaborates with research projects and organizations. The target group includes agricultural entrepreneurs and machinery contractors in the project area. Indirect beneficiaries include farmers and contractors across the country, advisors, and the research sector. The applicant for the project is the Federation of Education in Central Ostrobothnia with Isohuumosen Tila Oy as a co-implementer. The project will be carried out in the regions of Central and Northern Ostrobothnia during the years 2026–2028. 88150.86 111349.14 5502

The spider mite problem has become worse in the absence of fast-acting chemicals. Biocontrol lacks information on threshold values that cause yield losses, and methods for systematically monitoring spider mites are not available. Two sub-innovations form the core of the project. The first is a camera, IoT- and AI-based quantitative monitoring method for spider mite damages from leaves in varying lighting and seasonal conditions. The second is a method to effectively detect spider mite infested spots in the crop with the help of greenhouse workers. Precision control with sub-innovations 1 and 2 is complemented by the development of threshold values that determine the timing of control measures. The potential of commercializing sub-innovation 1 will be evaluated. The two-year EIP-SPINN project will be carried out by the Ostrobothnian Swedish Farmers’ Union (ÖSP) and the Natural Resources Institute (Luke) between April 2025 and March 2027. ÖSP owns the project. Luke is responsible for content planning and project management. Through procurement, ÖSP will recruit expertise in IoT and AI to develop Innovation 1. The project has an innovation group whose composition ensures that greenhouse firms and local advisors can continuously guide the project’s success with their feedback and assess the adaptability of the innovations to workflows. 94817.17 125687.88

Well adapted to the growing cycle of winter turnip rape, turnip sawfly (Athalia rosae) and pollen beetle (Meligethes aeneus) have locally caused significant losses. Our main goal is to test the potential of bio-based materials, byproducts of Finnish forest industry, to improve crop growth and resilience towards pest pressure. The project will also test the functionality and interactions of wood-based soil improvers with different types of organic fertilizers and diversification practices. The core of our innovation group is to develop a practical method to maintain healthy growth of winter turnip rape in local Finnish conditions and to help the plant to increase resilience towards insect pests. Wood-derived soil amendments can affect on soil fertility and even the success of insect pest reproduction . The true potential of wood-based soil improvers is hardly known. Innovative yet practical thinking and experimenting together with local organic farmers, researchers and advisors in this project will bring out solutions which help to maintain viability of one of the most important crops in Finnish organic farming. This project operates in Southern Savo area, Finland, in 2024-2026. 96594.53 128043.92
