Background information
Robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) are revolutionising farming and forestry, driving innovation, and increasing competitiveness across various sectors. From precision irrigation and fertilisation to automated pest control, yield prediction, and the analysis of satellite data, AI can help optimise efficiency. Meanwhile, robotics enables precision operations, allowing farmers and foresters to focus on high-value tasks, thus enhancing productivity and sustainability.
The seminar on Robotics and AI in farming and forestry has three main goals:
- Demonstration: Showcase current technologies and projects, allowing participants to see real-world applications and benefits.
- Learning: Facilitate knowledge exchange with experts, providing insights into robotics and AI and their successful implementation.
- Networking: Encourage collaboration and partnerships, fostering a community focused on advancing robotics and AI in agriculture and forestry.
The focus will be on the practical uses of robotics and AI in these fields. This event is designed for those already familiar with, or interested in, the latest advancements, and eager to explore how these technologies can be applied to meet their specific needs.
Objectives
The main objective of the seminar is to demonstrate practical technologies that can enhance productivity and sustainability, facilitate knowledge exchange on the latest advancements, and foster collaboration among stakeholders. By showcasing real-world examples and providing networking opportunities, the seminar aims to empower participants with actionable insights and connections for integrating robotics and AI into their operations.
The specific objectives of the seminar are to:
- Introduce participants to the fundamental concepts and benefits of robotics and AI in agriculture and forestry;
- Provide specific, tangible examples of successful use cases of AI and robotics in agriculture and forestry, demonstrating economic and operational improvements to inspire broader adoption;
- Showcase practical applications of these technologies in key processes, including planting, sowing, irrigation, pest and weed control, harvesting and post-harvesting, packaging, forest management, animal welfare, and animal husbandry;
- Identify the challenges and opportunities related to the adoption of robotics and AI, and explore potential solutions to promote these technologies across Europe;
- Promote networking among EIP-AGRI Operational Groups (OGs) projects, other innovation projects, Horizon Europe multi-actor projects, and relevant stakeholders;
- Identify the needs for capacity building, training, cooperation, and skills to enable the effective adoption and implementation of robotics and AI technologies in farming and forestry;
- Identify practical research needs from practice and possible knowledge gaps that can be addressed through new research and innovation, ensuring that future projects are well-targeted and impactful.
Main target groups
Priority will be given to farmers, foresters, farmers’ and foresters’ cooperatives and associations, entrepreneurs, advisors, agribusinesses including agritech companies, and researchers (particularly those working in agricultural and forestry technology).
