Project summary

GlobalBee – Smart Beekeeping and Natural Control Solutions
GlobalBee is coordinated by Oulu University of Applied Sciences in collaboration with beekeepers, sensor technology companies, research institutes, and a veterinarian. The project aims to develop and test environmentally sustainable technologies and methods that support bee health, improve honey production profitability, and create a scalable, international value chain for beekeeping.
The core focus is real-time monitoring and control of Varroa mites using sensor technology, alongside testing natural and biological control methods. The project develops and pilots systems that track hive conditions and mite presence, enabling timely interventions to maintain colony health. Solutions are tested in various climates and production environments, including urban and rural settings.
Results will be used in practical training and shared through international networks. The project is expected to reduce colony losses, strengthen bee vitality, and increase honey yields. The innovations will be integrated into everyday beekeeping and provide a transferable, sustainable model for wider use in Finland and across Europe.
