PRE-STUDY ON THE STATUS AND CHALLENGES FACED BY AFRICAN IMMIGRANT WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN THE RURAL AREAS OF THE TURKU REGION

African Women Immigrant Youth and Children Ry (AFROWIST) is an Association established in 2024 during the first meeting on the Status and Well-being of African Women Immigrants held in Turku, Finland. Since its inception, the organisation has been dedicated to responding and equipping African immigrants with the necessary information and knowledge about integrating into Finnish culture, work life, and social well-being. MEASURES of the study: A comprehensive report outlining the study findings, conclusions and recommendations, workshop to validate and disseminate the study findings and a dataset containing information on the demographics and statistical analysis of the data. Study Objectives: To examine issues of economic and social integration, access to healthcare and education, cultural adaptation, experiences of discrimination, and mental health challenges faced by African immigrant women, youth, and children in rural areas of Turku region. Expected Results: This study will help AFROWIST and Varsin Hyvä to identify and understand specific difficulties faced by African immigrant families and develop effective integration strategies to promote social inclusion, cultural exchange, and economic empowerment. The study will also help to inform policy decisions to address disparities and promote equal opportunities for African immigrants families in rural areas of Finland. Target group of the projects are African immigrant women, youth, refugees, children born of African mothers or Finnish fathers or mothers. Impact of study lead to better support services, policy changes, and community programs aimed at improving integration and quality of life for African immigrant families. Beneficiaries; African immigrants families, Municipalities, Healthcare sectors, service providers, policy makers and government institutions in Finland. Project Implementation period is 6 months and the area of implementation is Lieto.
