Save the Date: Stakeholder Workshop on Sphagnum Cultivation 30 September–1 October 2026 | Oldenburg region, Germany How can cultivated Sphagnum moss contribute to climate-friendly growing media and other sustainable products? Paludi4All invites researchers, practitioners, businesses and policymakers to a two-day stakeholder workshop Exploring the practical development and future potential of Sphagnum cultivation. By growing moss biomass on wet peat soils, Sphagnum paludiculture can support productive land use while maintaining high water levels and reducing emissions associated with drained peatlands. The first day will take participants into the field to see different stages of Sphagnum cultivation at Hankhauser Moor near Oldenburg. The excursion will also visit Torfwerk Moorkultur Ramsloh, where harvested biomass is processed into growing media, and LVG Bad Zwischenahn, where Sphagnum -based substrates are tested in tree nursery production. On the second day, experts and practitioners will meet in Oldenburg to share experiences, present practical examples and jointly explore the next steps for the sector. Interactive co-creation sessions will address cultivation challenges, product applications, business opportunities and the policy conditions needed to strengthen the entire Sphagnum value chain.
