Soil compaction is a growing problem for farmland, affected by the increasing weight of agricultural machinery. The main goal of project is to develop an easily portable measuring device that measures soil compaction and moisture at different depths, and automatically saves the measurements and their location information to a mobile user interface. Through the mobile user interface, the farmer can enter additional information such as soil type. Based on the measurements accumulated in the user interface and their locations, moisture distributions can be drawn on field-specific maps. Based on measurements taken in consecutive years, it is possible to make block-specific comparisons of the distribution of moisture and compaction on field plots. Based on block-specific maps, problematic areas in terms of moisture or compaction can be identified in the plots that would require special measures. The MOTIIVI project is planned to be implemented in collaboration between Häme University of Applied Sciences (HAMK), the Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke), and University of Turku (UTU). The system uses artificial intelligence to assess suspected diseases based on the horse’s symptoms, basic information and location, and provides the user with options for the diseases most likely to have infected the horse. The project investigates the occurrence of infectious diseases in horses in Finland, educates the horse industry about new disease threats, disease protection in stables and actions during an outbreak. By influencing the attitudes of the horse industry, the shame associated with disease outbreaks is reduced and horse owners are encouraged to communicate openly. The innovation produced in the project improves the biosecurity of horse stables, speeds up the response to disease situations and reduces the economic and welfare-related harm caused by infectious diseases, and protects people from zoonotic pathogens found in horses. The project is conducted by the Finnish Equine Information Centre and Savonia University of Applied Sciences. The project’s innovation group includes farms engaged in plant production and horse breeding, a riding school, as well as experts in horse health, technology and stable environment. This often leads to stress and fatigue, negatively impacting farm operations and profitability. While digital systems generate substantial production data, much of the daily work remains undocumented. The AgriTime project pilots digital technologies to manage work data and support labor development on farms. The aim is to automatically collect employee-specific data on daily observations, time usage, task allocation, and workload. Data collection tools include wearable cameras, smart devices, sensors, and speech recognition. AI processes the data into reports for management and organizes observations into reminders or instructions. The project develops an innovative method for agile work data collection and structuring, supporting farm labor development and documentation. This creates a foundation for data-driven management and commercial solutions, while raising awareness of the benefits of improving work practices. Led by Työtehoseura ry, with Centria University of Applied Sciences as co-implementer, the project includes three farms in the EIP innovation group. The project is coordinated by the Finnish Biocycle and Biogas Association (SBB). The goal is to create an open and freely adoptable operating model that helps farms capitalize economically on their climate work. The model is based on the co-development of climate tools, dissemination of knowledge and results, and the preparation of clear guides and training materials. At the same time, the project examines the current state of carbon markets and future opportunities to guide the sector’s development. A key question is how farms can receive market-based compensation for manure directed to biogas production and benefit from the climate work carried out in the food chain. The project benefits farmers, who can receive a premium for the carbon in manure, as well as biogas operators through improved operational conditions. Food chain companies gain reliable data on emission reductions and the opportunity to purchase emission savings to meet their climate targets. To achieve its objectives, the project involves a broad network of partners from different sectors whose expertise ensures impactful results.
